Acne Surgery
Our staff at the Georgia Dermatology Center includes acne surgery specialists skilled at improving the appearance of skin by preventing acne breakouts. As one the best skin specialist in the Atlanta area has to offer, our highly skilled double board certified dermatologist, Dr. Alexander Gross uses surgical instruments to remove acne lesions, thereby eliminating the chance of further infection and scarring caused by popping pimples at home. Acne surgery actually describes a variety of treatment options designed to help improve the complexion of a patient’s skin. While these procedures don’t rank as a patient’s first line of defense against acne, they make an excellent option to treat reoccurring acne breakouts that don’t respond to traditional treatments.
One of the acne surgery processes starts with extracting comedones in the skin which are the skin-colored, small bumps (papules) frequently found on the forehead and chin of those with acne. Open comedones are blackheads; black because of surface pigment (melanin), rather than dirt. Closed comedones are whiteheads; the follicle is completely blocked. This process should only be performed by a trained specialist instead of digging around at home and possibly making the situation worse.
About the Procedure
The procedure uses an 11 blade which will open the surface of the skin, will relieve some of the built up pressure under the surface and extract the substance below. The patient will feel a small poke and then some pressure from the tool. This process will help to prevent scarring and further damage. Dr. Gross will prescribe products that will help the return of acne. The procedure lasts around 30 minutes.
There is not extensive downtime associated with acne surgery. You just wan to make sure that you are really kind to your skin. Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated. Of course use a good sunscreen. Your skin is opened very slightly so that there is no cause to worry about scarring from this procedure. The tiny punctures heal very quickly so you can wear makeup and go about you normal routine.
Combining acne surgery for current acne breakouts with our dermatologist care to prevent future problems is the perfect 1 – 2 punch to actively rid yourself of blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules cysts and nodules. Our board certified dermatologist provides customized advice and treatments options for patients, including prescriptions for oral or topical acne treatments. Acne surgery provides immediate relief for active breakouts and can reduce the chance of scarring.
