Botox® Cosmetic, as well as Jeuveau, Dysport or Xeomin, are neuromodulator drugs that relaxes targeted facial muscles while still preserving natural facial expressions. It is a widely-used treatment to smooth lines and soften wrinkles caused by muscle contractions during repetitive facial expressions. Botox® treatments by Alexander Gross, M.D., at the Georgia Dermatology Center in Cumming, Georgia., decrease the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, and they may also be used in conjunction with dermal-filler injections for maximum facial rejuvenation results.

Is Botox or Another Facial Filler Right for You?

Is Botox, Jeuveau, Xeomin or Dysport Safe?

This is the # 1 question Dr. Gross is asked from patients who have never had Botox or another filler. There are so many rumors out there that make it sound scary, but it is actually very safe and has been around for over 19 years. Dr. Gross has been injecting it for his patients since it first came out. Risks can exist but when you have Botox injected by an experienced board certified dermatologist, like Dr. Gross, you rest assured that you are in the best hands.

About the Procedure

Treatment sessions take approximately 15 minutes depending on the extent of the wrinkles to be treated, the number of injections administered, and the number of areas targeted.  The targeted area is first cleaned with alcohol. The procedure does not require anesthesia; however, a topical anesthetic cream may be applied to reduce any tenderness.

Dr. Gross employs a tiny needle to inject the Botox, Dysoort, Xeomin, Jeuveau into the muscles of the targeted area. Patients sometimes experience a stinging sensation for a few seconds and possibly hear a “popping” sound. There may be some immediate redness and mild swelling at the injection sites, which will disappear within a few hours. There is no real downtime with the treatments. Patients resume most normal activities after treatment although strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours. Many of Dr. Gross’ patients have facial fillers injected at the same time such as Juvederm, Juvederm XC Plus, Radiesse, Voluma, Sculptra, Bellafill, Restylane Silk, and Belotero.

Duration of Results

The results of Botox® injections are not immediately visible. Within about a week after treatment, patients notice a reduction in the ability to move the treated muscles.  Within several weeks, the wrinkles in the treated areas will appear to soften. The effects generally will last anywhere between three and six months, during which time ability to move the treated muscles will gradually return. The potential for Botox® to spread beyond the treatment area is extremely rare.
