Correct Results From Prior Surgery
Michael Neimkin, M.D. has a unique, specialized education with qualifications and training that sets him apart from other ophthalmic facial plastic surgeons. Dr. Neimkin had his training in ophthalmology at the University of Alabama’s Callahan Eye Foundation. He then completed a 2-year oculofacial plastic, cosmetic, reconstructive and oncologic surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.
As an oculoplastic surgeon, he received certification from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), the primary governing board of this specialty. To be admitted into this organization, an oculoplastic surgeon must pass rigorous written and oral examinations testing their knowledge and skills. There are only approximately 20 surgeons who complete this speciality training every year. There is simply no substitute for this kind of training.
Ophthalmic Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery located in Atlanta, GA receives a large number of referrals from other ophthalmic surgeons because of Dr. Neimkin’s expertise. Dr. Neimkin has performed over 6,000 complex reconstructive and revisional surgical procedures focusing on the eyelids, eyebrows, forehead, eye orbits, tear ducts and midface. He also specializes in cosmetic procedures to improve the appearance of the eyes. His entire staff takes great pride in treating each patient as if they were a family member.
Revisional eyelid surgery, also called revisional or secondary blepharoplasty, corrects poor results from a prior surgery. Since the patient’s anatomy is distorted and there is scarring within the tissue, revisional surgery is more complex than the first procedure. Patients often seek the following results from revisional surgery:
- Normal function while maintaining an aesthetic outcome
- Cosmetic and functional correction around the eyelids
- Eliminate dryness and irritation
Need for Revisional Surgery Warning Signs
Some warning signs that the first surgery was unsuccessful and revisional surgery is required:
- Droopy eyelids
- Unsatisfactory shape or contour
- Blinking/shutting malfunction
- A hollow look under the eyes
- Eyes noticeably asymmetrical

This patient unfortunately lost an eye almost 30 years ago and underwent many surgical procedures. She came to us for revision of anophthalmic socket syndrome: eyelid asymmetry, eyelid hollowing, eyebrow asymmetry and her prosthesis constantly fell out (top left) due to a scar band and dislocated implant (top right). We performed a orbital anophthalmic socket reconstruction and an upper eyelid ptosis repair with fat grafting and lacrimal gland suspension to recreate normal volume. She is very happy with the eyelid symmetry and appearance 8 months post-op (bottom pic)!

This wonderful patient had brow and eyelid asymmetry after multiple prior procedures. We performed a bi-plane combined endoscopic and pretrichial browlift to even her eyebrows and eyelid platform show. The top photo is pre-operative, the bottom is 6 weeks after surgery. Her happiness and kindness made our day!
