The eyes are a central feature of the face and are the center of our emotional expressions. Their appearance has a profound impact on the way we are perceived. The excess skin and bulging which occurs, because of age and gravity, causes eyes, and by extension the rest of the face, to look tired and unpleasant.
Excess upper eyelid skin can hang over the eyelid and obstruct peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty removes excessive eyelid skin, for either functional or cosmetic indications. Droopy eyelids are a major reason why some people consider eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to remove and tighten excess eyelid skin for a more alert, youthful appearance.
Sometimes blepharoplasty also can improve your vision by providing a less obstructed field of view, once droopy eyelids are improved.
Candidates for Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty Surgery
Candidates for blepharoplasty are concerned about the tired appearance they project even when they are fully engaged and energetic. They may also have impaired peripheral vision caused by excess skin blocking the full radius view that normally would be available. This can interfere with reading, driving and other activities.
- Healthy individuals with no medical conditions that can impair healing

About The Surgery
Eyelid surgery is a relatively simple procedure designed to eliminate excess fat and skin from the lower and upper eyelids. It is often an introductory procedure serving to provide rejuvenation on the first area that usually succumbs to the aging process.
The surgery is usually done in an outpatient setting. Dr. Neimkin injects a numbing medication into the eyelids and administers intravenous medication to help you relax.
Dr.Neimkin makes a tiny incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and/or inside the eyelid, removing excess skin and repositioning any muscle to achieve a more open, better-refreshed appearance.
Aftercare and Recovery
Patients should expect temporary swelling and bruise during their first week to 10 days after the surgery. They need to rest and recover for 1 to 2 weeks before returning to work and normal activities. To check recovery progress and to have stitches removed Dr. Neimkin will schedule a follow-up appointment 5-7 days after the surgery.
Dr. Neimkin recommends applying cold compresses to help diminish bruising, swelling, and tenderness. Be sure to sleep with an elevated head to decrease swelling.
